DART-MX91: Compact, Cost-Optimized System on Module for Edge Computing
Variscite announces the DART-MX91, a versatile System on Module (SoM) designed for cost-sensitive edge computing applications. Starting at just $35, this compact module delivers essential performance and connectivity features while maintaining Variscite’s generous longevity commitment.
The DART-MX91 leverages NXP’s i.MX91 SoC architecture to provide an ideal solution for IoT, smart cities, connected sensors, portable devices, and industrial applications. Key specifications include:
- 4GHz Cortex™-A55 NXP i.MX91 processor
- Up to 2GB LPDDR4 RAM
- Up to 128GB eMMC storage
- Dual CAN-FD and dual Gigabit Ethernet
- Dual USB2.0
- Certified WiFi 6 802.11 ax/ac/a/b/g/n with Bluetooth/BLE5.4
- Optional 802.15.4 support
- Industrial-grade temperature support
- Compact 55 x 30mm footprint

The DART-MX91 has similar features to the previously announced VAR-SOM-MX91 while offering a more compact form factor and full compatibility with Variscite’s DART Pin2Pin family. This compatibility enables seamless scalability across different performance and feature tiers while maintaining the same carrier board design, significantly reducing development costs and risks for future product releases.
“With the addition of this new entry-level System on Module to our DART Pin2Pin family, Variscite is expanding the range of its scalable solutions to meet the requirements of developers working on cost-sensitive projects,” notes Ofer Austerlitz, VP Business Development and Sales of Variscite. “This new SoM combines affordability with the robust performance and versatility expected from our DART lineup, empowering our customers to innovate with confidence in a competitive market.”
Variscite will showcase the DART-MX91 at the upcoming SPS 2024 conference in Nuremberg, Germany (November 12-14, 2024), where it will be featured on NXP’s exclusive partner wall.
The module is backed by Variscite’s 15-year longevity commitment, ensuring long-term availability. This commitment, coupled with the module’s Pin2Pin compatibility, provides developers with a future-proof platform for their embedded systems.
The DART-MX91 and its evaluation kit are now available for ordering, offering developers immediate access to this latest technology. The combination of affordable pricing, integrated connectivity options, and long-term support makes the DART-MX91 an ideal choice for projects requiring a reliable SoM within budget constraints.
